Caters well for both kids and parents! Accessible prices, fun, clean, functional rooms, modern, designer deco, good, reasonable priced food and a huge focus on the cool, fun-packed living areas …

Autumn is here, and with it, it’s gorgeous warm colours as the forests change colour, the colder temperatures creep in, the days get shorter and the promise of winter is just around the corner. When we were given the opportunity of a mini w/e in Chamonix at the Rocky Pop Hotel in Les Houches, with the wild ones we jumped at the chance. With fresh snow on the peaks and the abundance of beautiful forests everywhere, Chamonix is just as beautiful in the Autumn as it is any time of the year.

THE ROCKY POP
Opened just over two years ago and part of new generation of hotels that are increasingly popular, with affordable modern design at the heart and a focus on human interaction. We felt a definite fun, lively “open house” vibe with the bar/lounge – living area serving as the hotels heart. A heart that acts as a social place where everyone is welcome and entertained whatever your age 😉
Mummy & Daddy in the mountains kicked back with cocktails whilst our wild ones charged round discovering the multitude of activities on offer 😉

Upon arrival the tone is set, as we were greeted by R2-D2 and C-3PO 😉 before meeting the welcoming reception staff.

FACTS & FIGURES:
148 rooms, with accommodation options from 1 to 12 people. Prices start at 55 € a night.

We were immediately given keys to our NEW super duper, interconnecting family room. With different levels, ladders, nooks and crannies galore the girls loved it so much they decided to play in the room for the first 30 minutes, leaving Daddy in the Mountains and myself with a moment to ourselves 😉 Our room was great, clean, comfortable with all the essential necessities and a few nice extra touches too.
TIME TO PLAY – FUN & GAMES GALORE:
Baby foot Petanque with playground
The focus is on FUN and there is no shortage of activities or spaces for kids to roam or burn off some energy, not once did we hear “I’m bored”… from table football, ping pong tables, snooker, arcade games (that even Ddady in the mountains liked!), a petanque pitch, a cool library with books for children & adults (& the local papers/magazines), board games, unlimited Wi-Fi, a cozy lounge, a “guinguette” under the olive trees, a dedicated kids area with toys and a mini colouring wall, a safe park outside that my youngest LOVED and there is even a photo booth at the entrance to make silly photos with a vending machine selling handcuffs and such like (my kids all strangely wanted the handcuffs …but I managed to persuade them to get the XXXL pink sunglasses when another parent told me they were for adults and it might be difficult to take off if we lost the keys 😉).

TIME TO EAT:
There are two main eating areas, one area composed of huge oak tables that people can share (think Pain quotidienne with a more urban, retro pop feel) and a few hip booths and another contrasting with a more sleek, scandinavian, minimalistic vibe with a seating area that you climb down into (very cool, unless you are wearing a short skirt) and views across the mountains. We got to test both – eating dinner on the large wooden tables and breakfast in the scandi style room. We loved both. In both areas you can pick food from a menu comprised of a mix of pizzas, burgers, Savoyard specialties and a few healthier options…My girls/hubby opted for pizzas and snaffled them up in no time, I opted for a soup with Houmas crackers which was delicious. All the food was well priced and looked good.

Breakfast was a HUGE buffet – always a winner in our house… with something for everyone, from English breakfasts …scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages to various breads and pastries, juices, pancakes, fruit, cheese, yoghurts, nuts…you name it.

THE VERDICT:
We loved the chilled, laid back atmosphere, the fun, stylish design, the play areas and activities on offer to keep everyone entertained, enabling some good quality family time as we all relaxed. The rooms are very good value for money too.
Thank you for the invite 🙂
