Yesterday we decided to escape the heat of Annecy and ventured higher to nearby La Sambuy for the afternoon. La Sambuy is only one hour from Annecy, is stunningly beautiful with panoramic views over the mountains towards Mont Blanc in one direction and Les Bauges in the other. The view of La Tournette is amazing and you also get a fabulous view of the lake in Annecy 😊

We took the chairlift up to the top (although you can walk), had a drink at the lovely “buvette” at the top before walking back down with Grandad! The walk took us the recommended 1 hour 30 but we walked at a leisurely pace picking a few wild flowers and taking photos of the abundance of butterflies.

Practical info : The chairlift is open from 9h-17h30 and at the top there is lots of information on offer on the various activities you can do… you can access a via ferrata “La cordée des Dahuts”, go paragliding , go on a lovely botanical walk, walk to the top of La Sambuy “La Petite Sambuy” or walk down through the Combe to a lovely shepherd’s farm, meet the animals and purchase some fresh cheese directly from the pasture.😊 They have also put lots of little activities to amuse you whilst you are there from a homemade version of Finnish bowling to a slack line.
I wouldnt recommend walking down with really young children as its quite steep in places with slippy gravel. Its probably nicer to get the chairlift up and down and do the walks from the top.
The Slack line with Daddy in the Mountains Our hike back down
We got down too late but at the bottom there is also a “luge d”été” a summer sledge, accessible from 1,05m and above, with a 600m of downhill descent, including 9 turns and 3 “jumps”! We have already done this a few years ago and my girls loved it. (open from 11h – 18h)
THE VERDICT: A lovely family day out (or afternoon trip) with walks that are accessible for everyone and a view well worth the trip.
