Affordable, super chic apartments ideally located in the centre of Aix les Bains.
We were lucky enough to have a mini, mini-break in June, without our monkeys. One night where we managed to finish our sentences, have proper conversations and most importantly SLEEP 😉
We went to the super stylish apart hotel in Aix-les-Bains. Although Aix-les-Bains is nearby, we never go there given we have our own beautiful lake on our doorstep. We were delighted to discover Aix-les-Bain – otherwise known as the Riviera des Alpes, another Alpine lake and most importantly the newly opened Cote Ouest AIX.
Côte Ouest Appart Hotel – AIX
Opened in February 2018, in one of the oldest houses in Aix-les-Bains, seven super chic, modern apartments are nestled away right in the heart of the town. The building itself can be found on a lovely little square, minutes away from the Casino and the thermal baths in the heart of Aix-les-Bains.
The historic building dates from 1739 – a few features have been carefully restored and are still apparent in the staircase and the entrance way.

Our apartment “La Loge” was light and spacious, overlooking the square which was bustling with activity early evening on its terraces. Our bedroom was cornered off by a stylish, industrial style separation, leading on to a mini lounge, kitchenette, dining area where we ate breakfast. The facilities are fabulous, and they have thought of everything…from free wifi, a dishwasher, to a toaster, to flat screened televisions all tastefully appointed 😉

We loved the deco…a lovely shade of duck blue set an intimate tone and the highest quality bed linen, made it difficult to get out of bed. There are beautiful touches everywhere you look. The bathroom is gleaming white and perfectly clean. I fell in love with the body wash, a wonderful concoction of rosemary, sage & lavendar and managed to have three showers (don’t ask !!!).

What is an Appart Hotel?
For those who don’t know the concept of an “appart hotel”. It’s like an apartment with all the facilities of a hotel on offer. Côte Ouest one is also eco-responsible, focusing on energy-saving equipment, the exclusive use of products and materials displaying the eco-label standard for responsible eco design. There is a mini kitchenette in the apartments, so you can cook if you like etc. A locally sourced half bottle of white wine was chilling nicely in the fridge too. (Nice touch & delicious) Breakfast can be ordered and delivered. We ordered breakfast to be delivered to our room the following morning. It was beautifully presented with fresh local produce and delivered on the dot by a charming young man. You can also organise bikes, washing, babysitting, massages, cleaning…activities.

We slept well, fully recharged to get back to our three princesses!

Talking of princesses –Mummy in the Mountains is proud to work with Côte Ouest. Côte Ouest provides all children with free, region specific colouring in postcards, printed on recycled paper and colouring in pencils to entertain your little ones and give ideas of visits to do in the region.
Côte Ouest also has an apart hotel lakeside in Annecy. We have visited and it looks AMAZING, right next to the cycling path that wraps around the lake, with lakeside views and the same standard of interior design and facilities.
AIX-LES-BAINS itself:
The night BEFORE
We opted to drive to Aix les bains via La Chambotte, which was strongly recommended by several locals for the views. It was stunning, and we were treated to a fabulous panoramic view of the lake as we drove over to our dinner destination.
We opted to have diner lake side at O’Lac at the Chatillon beach at Chindrieux, located at the Northern end of the lake. What a wonderful discovery…a great restaurant, located literally on a peaceful beach at the top of the lake, next to a peacful little port. Our table overlooked the beach and the lake directly. The food was fresh, locally sourced where possible and the service was good. I had the local fish, lavaret which was delicious. The menu is varied with something for everyone. The restaurant would fall into my category of “casual chic” … a type of understated luxury, set by the quality of its food and its location.
Note: You can hire boats, kayaks etc. from this beach too and discover Aix-les-Bains by water, which appears to be slightly wilder and less developed than the centre of Aix-les-bains.
The morning AFTER
We took a stroll from the apartment to discover the centre of Aix-les-Bains – which was nice and charming. We then decided to head down to the port for a quick coffee overlooking the lake and sauntered along the “promenade” taking the views in ! Here are a few..Stunning ! :
